Join me as we learn and practice one of the most well-known kriyas in the Kundalini Yoga tradition. It is said this kriya, or action, is one of the most powerful exercises as it works on all levels of your being/conscious.

NO Kundalini experience, or chanting experience required. Jump in, breathe, open your mind, and explore something new!

A kriya is a series of postures, breath, and sound that works toward a specific outcome. For this particular kriya, it is one posture that holds its own.

Practicing a kriya initiates a sequence of physical and mental changes that can affect the body, mind, and spirit simultaneously.

In this session, we practice the chant “SAT NAM” (which sounds like Sutt Numm) with a mudra up overhead for 3 minutes and 3 minutes of rest to follow.

This exercise stimulates and balances your natural flow of energy, and massages the internal organs. In this tradition, this practice is done to purify your being, encouraging a detox of anything negative in your system.

Other benefits of Sat Kriya include:

- Improved digestion

- Toning of the nervous system

- Strengthens the heart

- Strengthens the sexual system and stimulates its natural energy

- Can be an aide for mental problems, as it helps to rebalance the lower three chakras

Three minutes is a solid goal, and widely practiced daily by Kundalini yogis. Just do your best! You can build up the time of the kriya to be longer - even to 30 minutes. Just remember to rest after for as long as you chant! (Or double the time, when time allows.) Deep relaxation after this chanting practice is key for activating the parasympathetic nervous system which allow your body's systems time to reconstitute and regenerate.

Let me know if you have any questions and/or how this goes for you in the comment tab below.

If you like this practice check out my Kundalini Meditation Sa Ta Na Ma here: https://fwfg.com/programs/kundalini-meditation_sa-ta-na-ma-kriya

EDIT: The resource links I put up earlier were unsuitable, no good, and have been removed. I will look for more better and more suitable resources! In the meantime, I recommend a google search if you are curious about why Kundalini yogis wear white.

Love,

Adriene

Hi lovely Adrienne, namaste and Sat Nam this beautiful Sunday 21st of March! Spring is here in London and I am drinking in the sunshine and watching little birdies on the feeder, what beauty we have in the world and how lucky we are to be here! I love your fwfg , who you are, the commitment you have and the love and yoga you share....I see you evolving so much and exploring deeply.....so I thank you, I really do, you have set me on this journey too! You always have or say something that connects and resonates with meaning for me, I am forever grateful! Interestingly, I have been dipping my toe into Kundalini yoga via 'Daily Om' and a 5 part chakra kundalini workshop with Donna Davidge. I have a breathing question for you....as I wasn't quite sure how to do it right/it wasn't clear to me: When you are saying 'Sat Nam', how can you do the kabalbati breath at the same time? I can do an inhale with Sat and an exhale with Nam(squeezing in belly?)but I wouldn't be able to say the 2 words at the same time..? I am a yoga teacher (since Jan 2019) and I might like to try this out with some of my community....so need to understand and get it right. I hope to hear from you soon, have an amazing Sunday in Austin, I hope to visit one day!! Love and light, Juliet

It was very emotional for me! I'm not sure where those emotions came from. Thank you! I love yoga for the body, mind and soul. But then it is one.

OK, so I gave this a try, albeit with a somewhat annoyed frame of mind due to my previous comment about placing human social norm on Benji. I'm a huge dog lover and have always felt instant connection with them so please forgive my bias and preconceptions. I realize my discontent with that may have tainted my entire experience with this session and closed my heart up a little. But all I could think and feel, was that this was not for me. It came off as too rigid and dogmatic of an approach too closely resembling the human application of traditional religions and belief systems. One of the many reasons I have always felt repelled by organized religion. I sense God (my definition of her) in free form, but never in rigid ones. It felt cult like, and not the interbeing feel I crave and have until now found here. Remember this is just my opinion, one in a million, but I give it bc you asked for it Adriene. Respectfully and Namaste.

I love this kriya but something wasn’t connecting - how/when are we supposed to breathe?

Does anyone have a tip on how to breathe during this video? I am familiar with the fire breath, but I find it hard to chant and breath at the same time.

just wanted to say that my mom and I have been doing Kirtan kriya for about 25 days now. Doing the 40 days with cross-heart kirtan kriya. I have never felt so different from a meditation. I mean, with hatha, it changed my life for the better both for the exercise and mindfulness component. But something about this mantra meditation... I don't know how but it changes things. My perspective, my attitude, my habits... Anyway, I don't think I would have accepted my mom's challenge had I not already had a little experience with the sa-ta-na-ma mantra from having done it with you. So another thanks to you my friend.
