Okay, you made it to the beginning. If you are reading this you are in the right place. X marks the spot. You Are Here. This session is a soft hand reaching out to help you befriend you. Prana as a series is about aligning with the wisdom of your body and being. On Day 1 you will get a taste for holistic yoga practice that takes a therapeutic approach to physical strength, joint health, nervous system resilience, and your mental wellness. Our primary focus is on the breath.

Day 1 practice time, 27 minutes. This is the longest session in the series. Slow down and use it to check in with your body, your breathing patterns, and your whole self fully. This practice sets you up so nicely for the rest of the series! It’s soft, it’s inquisitive, it has foundations for subtle body awareness as well as gross body work. Day 1 asks you to be curious about what it feels like to move in this current season of your life.

Tap in. Listen. Let’s get your energy moving.

Thank you for showing up for yourself.
First practice of the year in Sai Kung, Hong Kong, with my sweet girl waiting for me. I lost my dad two weeks ago today and this practice was a reminder to bring patience, acceptance and softness to all things.

Prana day 1 marks a return to the mat after an illness break for me. A nasty tussle with RSV has left me short of breath and exhausted since Christmas. During this period of enforced stillness and isolation (when I felt I should be having fun, how very rude), I noticed how quickly my level of zen fell apart. I got grumpy. Overthinky. Sore...in all ways. My diet? Abysmal. I'm starting to resemble a cracker/crisp/cookie. Even worse it's ALL I want to eat now 😆

I feel...truly like I did when I started this journey years ago. Like a beginner again. Unfit. Unbalanced. Uncertain.

And then I realised. A beginners mindset is SUCH a gift. I don't need to be on top of my game. Starting over allows a different perspective and after a week of grumpy illness on top of a stressful holiday period, I desperately need a shift in perspective. How quickly old habits surface when the going gets tough. Well worn paths that helped us survive at one point, now perhaps no longer serve. So now maybe I can do what my body requires of me with a little more grace and a little less rebellion.

Rest.

Happy new year yoga family, meet you on the mat tomorrow...gently of course.

In the middle of this sequence I discovered that for me, it's about the aging body -- learning what it can still do, accepting what it can't, and discovering adjustments to accommodate this reality.
