Join Liz for the first of a new series on Pilates Fundamentals: Hip Health. In this 20-minute session, you will begin with purposeful stretches to explore hip differentiation and learn to move your leg in the socket without overusing your pelvis or spine. You’ll tone the deep, supportive muscles of the hip socket and glutes, increasing your range of motion. Strong and mobile hips – along with a strong core – decrease the risk of low back injuries and improve your hip, knee, and lower spine health. Perform this video alone or with a core toning practice, and feel yourself spring to life!

A towel is all you need for this session.

One of my hips makes a popping noise when lowered. Especially when I'm on my back with my legs in the air and then lower it towards floor. It will make a pop about halfway down. It doesn't hurt, but I wonder if it's something I should be more aware of. I loved this workout as well as Liz's other videos. Excited to get more videos from Liz because it's not just a good workout, but I also learn so much about my body. Thank you so much!

I did this a few minutes after today’s Core Power workout. Liz, this was amazing! Mindful, targeted, loving, hip-centered movements. Oh so nice. I stayed for 2 minutes on my back, I feel amazing. Light, spacious and so loved. Balanced calming cues, good pace, nice reps, great low to the ground hips session. Oh so nice! Did a body scan, no sore spots - yummy! I did feel it after every 4 reps but stable/strong - great way ti ease into it! So nice Liz, what a gift. Thank you for the loving kindness! Likewise, spreading the Love: May everyone…”be safe, healthy, happy. Be well.” I come to the matt devoid of any expectations, but with this initial session - I look forward to so much more! Excited for more Pilates videos with Liz. My hips are feeling the love, it’s so content and spacious! Appreciate the calm soothing vibes to your voice too! Nice one Adriene and team! Peace, Light and Love to everyone 💛💚💙💜

Being diagnosed with FAI (hip impingement) has changed the way i practice, and made me very cautious. This was absolutely perrfect! So gentle and so therapeutic, felt absolutely no pain at all (just a little burn!) thanks so much Liz ❤️

Hi Liz

I wanted to do all of these exercises but my body said no…like you I felt it after 3-4 reps but I had to stop.

Do you think if I did these from time to time, the pain I felt would go away.

Do I just need to get stronger in my hips? Thank you.

I've used hip muscles I never knew I had. I like that you explain the anatomy. I'm learning something. 💃❤️💃❤️

Yaaasss, this got INTO those hip sockets! I had a problem keeping my hips in-line and had to constantly remind myself to not tuck or rock the pelvis. I would find myself scrunching and had to physically elongate my spine again. Liz, are there any cues that would help alleviate that tendency? Or is that something to be addressed separately, ie spine alignment or something?(Not so subtly pushing for more pilates videos, please!😁) Thanks!!💕

I’m looking forward to this one tomorrow for the Pilates challenge! I’m tending some lower back pain on my right side though. Like the kind of lower back pain where I can bend forward without it catching and hurting type of pain. It’s so annoying! Any suggestions on now this might impact the practice or modifications I might need to take?
