My guest series with Rey continues! In this session we discuss the importance of engaging the muscles that you are stretching.

Rey and I agree that in life and in yoga we seek the minimum amount of necessary rules so that we can be truly be free. On the mat at home, there are no rules in my book, only an importance to understand your body and to create a safe framework for you to play and practice in. This workshop style session is great for those who are hyper-mobile and great for those seeking to increase flexibility safely and sustainably.

In this video we will:

Discuss one necessary (we think) rule for yoga.

Learn and practice proper alignment for hip stabilization in different poses.

Learn and practice breaking down the nuances of poses to make them more advanced.

Use happy baby pose to alleviate outer hip flexor pain.

Learn to find freedom in form.

Talk about hypermobility vs. inflexibility.

Learn what porta potty pose is.

Namaste,

Adriene

This was very supportive. Thank you! Can we have more yoga videos for hypermobile people? I understand practitioners generally recommend pilates for hypermobility. However, I find yoga more supportive in finding my balance in everyday life. Furthermore, in my case, hypermobility also includes being super tight in your body as muscles learn to protect you from injury. More videos on this topic would be greatly appreciated. 🙏

Thanks FWFG Team for including this workshop video in this month’s calendar. Love being reminded to maintain connective tissues wareness and hugging the midline. Great mindset to Root safely as I grow my practice. That’s so kind, mindful, compassionate and loving of all of you. I am indeed, in a safe space. I have a grateful heart. Take good care everyone. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Wow, this one took me into a whole new way of thinking about structure. When I employed the suggestions, I felt a completely different stretch and position. Now it's making me think about how mindfully thinking about structure can improve my practice and experience. Thanks Ray!

This was such a valuable practice for me. Just exactly what my body needed. Thank you Rey and Adriene. I’ve definitely had the experience with Yin yoga in the past of exhausting my connective tissue so these cautions are sooo helpful. Thank you again.

Oh. My. Gosh. Where has this been all my life?! I am hyper mobile and often have issues with my right hip in particular. My chiropractor has to fix that every time I go in. As I practiced this, opening AND stabilizing, my right hip corrected itself 🤯🤯. It felt even better than an adjustment, and I can literally feel the rush of energy in that hip and down my leg. THANK YOU for this foundation. I will be taking it into every practice from here on out.

Love learning from you two 💕 This was so very helpful and enlightening! By engaging the muscles around my hips in alignment with Rey’s prompts, during the three shapes we practiced, I have found much more space in my tight hips.

Engagement/structure = freedom/space 🤔 🤩 👏

Love this workshop style which will help me and my hips in all my practices 😊 Excited to carry this knowledge forward!
