I'm so happy to welcome back my friend and colleague Rey Cardenas! Rey is a master of symbology and alignment. With these two elements combined, I find his work and his way of sharing yoga to be just what the doctor ordered, especially for the at home yogi wanting to go deeper. He is kind, his heart is big, he inspires me to keep learning and he knows his stuff.

Part workshop, part practice, this session is sure to challenge you and leave you feeling inspired too! If you like this video be sure to check out his practice based on The Magician.

I hope you enjoy!

xx

Adriene

__________________

This practice is inspired by the High Priestess. She is the symbol of gnosis which is the 2nd stage of genuine spiritual experience. The definition of gnosis is knowledge of spiritual mysteries. Gnosis is reflection on the pure act of mystical experience (symbolized by the Magician).

Here is a quote from Meditations on the Tarot regarding gnosis: “The pure act in itself cannot be grasped; it is only its reflection which renders it perceptible, comparable and understandable or, in other words, it is by virtue of the reflection that we become conscious of it.”

In yoga, your body reflects meaning back to you through sensation. “The Magician dares - for this reason he is standing. The High Priestess knows - this is why she is seated.” The active passivity of sitting upright and alert is ideal state for gnosis to occur. In this practice we will practice sitting poses that culminate into asta vakrasana which is the next progression of the arm balance we did in the Magician video.

Thank you!

Love,

Rey

I have a question-in these poses where there is a twist and we are supposed tohave both of our sitting bones on the ground to make the pelvis level -if decant be in the pose with both sitting bones level -is the priority to have the sitting bones level or to do the position . in gomarkasa legs I have the same issue

The Cue With Clasping Down With Your Leg Aroud The Arm Made The Balancing Pose Sooo Much Easier 💪

drowning sailor was fun, never done that one before! i maybe got a bit further into the hip opener but i have really hard time getting my leg over my shoulder. it's so far away from getting up over it, i felt a bit discouraged. but when i looked away and focused on sensation, it did feel good.

That was really fantastic and just nice! I wept while you were reading from the book as it resonated so deeply with me. It was also very enlightening to experience certain familiar poses with a fresh perspective, hitting on different nuances within the shape...thanks so much Rey! I love to learn and you def bring the ingredients to a much loved practice...." My chrome is shinin just like an icicle, i tide around town on my low ridah bicycle..."

Loved this practice! Thank you. Now I need to complete the Magician video. Thanks for the suggestion to use blocks. My torso to arm ratio is a bit off! I have a long way to go for the arm balance but at 64 years young I am happy that I can at least hook my leg over my arm LOL

I feel I have no starting point for this arm balancing pose due to seized hips and sacral area. Felt fairly inaccessible, although I have been practising YWA daily for more than 700 days. But I do enjoy your onsights, Rey.

I have a new yoga crush 🙂 Thank you Rey for that lovely lovely, strong and stretchy time.

I really appreciate how Rey approaches to some of the common poses, especially tabletop. I found I could recruit so many more muscles than I usually can. Later in the practice, my hips opened up in such an amazing way that I felt like I could think about approaching the challenging pose at the end. (I got my butt off the ground a bit!)

While the transitions were a bit rough, I felt like it was permission to work in a few other poses my body needed.

Again, Thank you for this wonderful, wonderful practice. This will be in frequent repeat for me....
