Developing a Journaling Practice for Whole Living

Gratitude has the power to transform our days and lift us up. Try beginning or ending your day focused on gratitude and watch the impact it has.

This week for our WRITE practice we are focusing on Gratitude journaling. I share a prompt for you in this video. For the next week, jot down the prompt in the video then list five things. You decide if you do it at the start or the end of your day. Maybe try a week at the start of the day and a week at the end of the day and see what comes out of that.

Through the ups and downs in life, gratitude can be that touchpoint that keeps us grounded and present. Some days it may feel like there is nothing to be grateful for, but perhaps those are the days we need to connect with gratitude the most.

Gratitude invites us to release the past and future and instead be fully present in this moment.

If you feel like sharing your gratitude journal with this FWFG community this week, I would invite you to stop by for a quick check-in each day and leave your five things in the comments below. Gratitude begets gratitude and when we surround ourselves with others who are grateful, it is easier to be grateful.

With love,

Sarah

I was so surprised to find that I could find so many things/people/feelings/critters to be grateful for during this week's journaling. It seems that I could keep writing a list for pages and would stop when I got to 10 or 11!!! (Really surprised myself.) For several years now I've done a little exercise in the morning before I even get out of bed and I think it helped me with this week's journaling. I take 4 really deep breaths (and have added Adriene's mantra of lots of love in/lots of love out), then I smile softly, I think of 4 things/people whatever that I am grateful for, and then I set an intention for the day. When I'm stuck it seems that the intention is always "be kinder than I need to be"--so this writing series is really wonderful for my experiences. Thank you so much, Sarah, and everyone who's written comments. I love seeing how others are finding this journaling process. Lots of love.

I didn't think that this would help, but in such a scary time and with so much fear and pain floating around, I must admit I have many treasures right now (that others may not be so fortunate to have). Thanks for this post! You were right :)

I am grateful for life and how its unfold with all its miracles. I know it sounds little abstract but this morning I contemplated this very thought. We all are surrounded by micracles , be it singing of birds or typing this text right now but sometimes we forget it in our daily life. So right now with you (the reader) I am creating a moment to acknowledge it.

Week 2's prompt was a little hard for me. I was actually able to find 5 things that I'm grateful for each day but sometimes it took me a while to come up with no 4 & 5. But it is nice to do brain dumping in the mornings & express gratitude in the evening. I will try to keep it up but I'm curious how it'll work out over a longer period of time. Journaling in general went well in the past 2,5 weeks. Thank you, Sarah 😊
