In part two of our osteoporosis series with Marnie, we’ll focus on axial extension. Axial extension is the active lengthening of your spine, creating space between the vertebrae to straighten and lengthen the spine. You’ll begin with floor work to warm up the spine, then practice some subtle strength-building exercises. Use an imaginary overhead bar to help find balance in high lunge, and lift and lengthen in chair pose. Axial extension is an action that is learned and is crucial to all yoga poses.

You will need a blanket, two blocks, and a chair for this practice.

What can I use instead of blocks? Does she use them a lot? I just did day 1's practice and muddled through using a thick book... now I see this next practice needs 2 blocks. I might skip it if the blocks are used a lot.

Single best cue was how we fold like parchment paper as we age. I made a slight adjustment to how I hold my front body and it made a big difference.

It baffles me every time how Marnie leads us trough seemingly simple postures but in a way where we are forced to f e e l them, rather than just slamming ourselves into the positions (as most of us probably do at times). I always feel peaceful and accomplished after a class with Marnie, even if the session has not been a sweaty one, I am absolutely certain that I will feel it tomorrow, I feel great! Thank you Marnie and Namaste ❤️

I love this series and the subtlety of the movements that get deep into the connective tissue. Thank you for being here and making these practices possible Marine. I will remember the "bar" metaphor every time I do poses like creacent and volcano. Instantly noticed the imporvement in how I hold those poses with your reference. Thank you. Namaste💜✨.

These subtle and stretchy poses are wonderful! I don’t have osteoporosis but this series is shedding light in dark places and I am discovering more about my body and self. ☀️☀️

What a great somatic practice - thank you! Reminds me of the Iyengar I used to practice in studio before the pandemic. Will be coming back to this entire series often!
